How to Remove Water Marks on Your Frameless Shower Door

Frameless glass is a great investment for your home. Aside from adding instant value to any bathroom, it makes a good investment if you’re planning to resell in the future. A frameless shower door is also much easier to clean than other traditional shower doors.

However, frameless shower doors typically come with the difficulty of dealing with watermarks. Hard water leaves deposits of magnesium and calcium on the glass, making the marks. Hazy droplets then make glass seem dirtier than it really is. Such mineral deposits are harder to remove, so a simple wash is not enough to get rid of them.

There are materials you can use to remove those stubborn hard-water stains from you frameless shower door. Here are a few examples.

1. Store-Bought Cleaning Compounds

If you don’t want to spend too much time mixing your own cleaning solution, you can buy cleaning products specifically made for hard water stains. Abrasive cleaners come in the form of liquids and powders and can be sprinkled on the surface or applied using a towel.

To use these products, start by wetting the glass and then wiping the cleaner on it. The surface needs to be wet, especially if you’re using a cleaner that’s in powder form, so the product sticks to the surface better. Leave it on for a few minutes, then rinse the surface with water.

2. Fresh Lemon Extract

You can get more juice by rolling the lemon on a countertop. For easy application, simply squeeze the lemon juice into a spray bottle containing water. Spray the solution onto a clean cloth before wiping it over the glass.

The lemon itself can also be directly wiped over the frameless shower door surface. After cutting the lemon, just rub the cut side over the glass and let it soak in for a few minutes before removing with water.

3. Vinegar

Vinegar is one of the best kitchen staples used for cleaning. Aside from being non-toxic, it effectively cleans different surfaces in your home. Plain white distilled vinegar is the most ideal version to use for cleaning.

For optimum results, mix 50% vinegar with 50% tap water, although you can increase the amount of vinegar used if you need to clean particularly tough stains. Simply spray a generous amount of the mixture on the surface and then wipe it away after a few minutes using a clean cloth.

4. Prevention

If you don’t want to go through all the trouble of buying or making your own cleaning solution, you can prevent or lessen the chances of having watermarks. There are products that are designed to treat the glass and prevent water droplets from settling on the surface, repelling water from your glass door.

Removing hard water stains from your frameless shower door doesn’t require complicated tools, so you can do it on your own. However, the task can be quite taxing and require a significant amount of your time. Sometimes it’s just more practical to hire a professional cleaner to make sure the entire surface is completely free of watermarks, but knowing how to handle it yourself isn’t a bad idea, either.
